Four state firefighters remember a fellow comrade who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.40 year old Steve Fierro died yesterday while helping to fight a fire in Diamond. His current Chief John Cooper says Steve Fierro was a good family man who was a people person who loved meeting new people. Steve Fierro served 10 years with the Carthage Fire Department. Before that, he served about two and a half years with the Neosho Fire Department where he started as an engineer. His former Captain, Neosho Fire Chief Greg Hickman, says Fierro was anxious to start his career as a firefighter. Following his time in Neosho, Steve served 10 years with the Carthage Fire Department as a part of the a-shift. Steve Fierro is survived by his wife Teresa and his two children. Carthage Fire Chief John Cooper told KSN today preliminary autopsy results show Fierro died of smoke inhalation. Funeral arrangements are being made at this hour and of course, we`ll let you know as soon as that information becomes available. A trust fund has been set up for the fierro`s children Courtney and Caleb.
