JOPLIN, MO --  The National Weather Service's assessment report from the May 22nd tornado is already prompting local changes.

Jasper County's Emergency Management Director, Keith Stammer, has been studying the report since it came out yesterday. The assessment looks at how people responded to weather warnings.

Stammer said Jasper County will focus more on the human aspect when educating the public. He said it is up to the individual to make sure they are taking necessary precautions when they hear sirens

"We're going to push the idea that you as an individual need to take control of your life, you need to understand that warning, you need to preplan," Stammer said.

"You need to have a kit, you need to be prepared, and you need to be informed," Stammer added.

He also said it's important to take every warning seriously,  and that no one should ever go out and search for severe weather themselves.
