Newton County Flying Money

Updated: January 7, 2009
A local sheriff`s department has over 75 thousand dollars in their evidence room that no one will claim they own. The Newton County Sheriff`s Department is currently holding 75-thousand dollars. And it could soon belong to them. The money was found in a drug bust late last Wednesday night in Northern Newton County. When officers came upon the scene of the bust they say eleven people ran out of the trailer. That`s when they say the money was seen floating through the air. But according to the Sheriff, all of the people arrested say they have no idea where the money came from. Sheriff Doerge says they`ll seek federal forfieture of the money. That means it goes through the DEA office in Springfield and will eventually come back to the agencies who found the money. The Sheriff says the money will be used to continue to fight the war against drugs. Reported By: Jennifer Grannan
