MO Highway Patrol Trooper Shortage

Updated: January 7, 2009
You may have to wait quite a while if you need help from a Highway Patrol Officer. That`s because there is a state wide shortage of troopers in Missouri. State-wide, the Highway Patrol is 77 troopers short,in the Carthage office, they are down 4 positions. And to the average driver that means that you`ll have to wait longer for a trooper to respond to your accident "It doesn`t allow for us to have 24 hour coverage. There are several hours within the course of any given day when there won`t be a trooper available to respond to a call. Those troopers have to be called out from here,"said Sgt. Kent Casey, MO Highway Patrol. According to Casey, the main reason for the shortage is due to troopers taking higher paying jobs in other police agencies. Reported By: Brad Douglas
