Testimony wraps up early as a preliminary hearing stretches into a second day. The women are accused of scamming a Southeast Kansas School District into believing birdie jo was a 13-year old boy. The County Prosecutor called three more school officials to the stand today but testimony lasted approximately an hour. Two were asked to testify to the time they spent working with Birdie Jo Hoaks as well as her sister Becky Jo. According to School Resource Officer Sargent Deb Webb,she questioned the age and gender of the 13-year-old boy, Chris Gomez, but never brought her concern to anyone`s attention. The School Psychologist, John Hartley, discussed the testing he performed on Chris Gomez. He also told attornies that the time he spent with Gomez could have been spent on other aspects of his job.Sharon Anderson, the payroll clerk for Galena School District, also testified talking about how much each employee who worked with Gomez makes.
A recess was called this morning around 10:15 because the next witness, the pastor from Galena Assembly of God, was called away on an emergency. The Goaks preliminary hearing will resume next week.
