Another trial against a popcorn manufacturer gets underway in Jasper County. The third in a series of trials is underway at the Jasper County Courthouse in Carthage. Opening arguments in the case began yesterday. Three former workers and one current worker at the Jasper popcorn plant have filed suit against the makers of an artificial butter flavoring. Those filing suit include Evelyn Standhardt of Carthage, Marge Unruh of Jasper, Velma Ingalls of Iantha, and Dustin Smith of Alba. The four plaintiffs say their lungs were damaged as a result of exposure to a butter flavoring. The defendants are International Flavors and Fragrances incorporated and Bush Boake Allen incorporated. In March a jury award Eric Peoples and his wife 20 million dollars. Peoples was a former worker at the plant. A ten woman, two man jury is hearing the latest case.
