After more than a year serving his country overseas, a local soldier is finally home. Sergeant Casey Simmons says he`s been waiting for a year to see his family again, and that time finally came last night. Simmons was welcomed back to Joplin with a suprise party. The Sergeant was one of many soldiers serving in Iraq with the 203rd Engineering Batallion, based out of Joplin. The troop is part of the humanitarian missions in Iraq. Simmons says they are trying to improve the quality of life for the Iraqi`s by building up schools and public works. Although it`s been thirteen months since he`s been gone, Simmons was one of the lucky soldiers who got to come home earlier than expected. Sergeant Simmons says it was tough to be away from his family for the last thirteen months. Another soldier from the 203rd also flew home last night. However, the rest of the troop is still in Iraq. They are rumored to be home in the next two months however there has been no confirmation as to when they will arrive home. Reported By: Courtney Cullor
