A local trucking company must pay over $22,000 to a former employee for sexual discrimination. Bock Transportation, a Joplin trucking company, has agreed to pay the fine in a settlement announced today. The lawsuit alleges that Bock subjected former employee, Lisa Shields, to vulgar sexual comments that created a hostile working environment. In addition, Shields claims she was paid a lower salary because of her sex and was refused health insurance benefits for her family, while the company paid such benefits for male employees. In addition to the fine, the company agreed to provide written notification to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of any complaint of sex discrimination or sexual harassment for a two-year period.
