Joplin, MO- "Technology can definitely help achieve a healthier lifestyle. We essentially have a small computer at our fingertips with most smart phones." Freeman Physical Therapist Kip Johnson knows firsthand. He uses health related apps both professionally and personally. They can make for better results in your workout... or at least help you stick with it for more than a few days.
One example, IFitness, helps with strength training. Johnson said, "It allows you to break down your routines. So for instance if you're doing triceps that day, you can get 15-20 different exercises for the triceps so you don't get stuck in one routine."
Another app called Fooducate helps break down your diet. "It allows you to scan the barcode of certain types of food or food you're looking at the store. And it goes into a data base and basically they have the nutrients on that food. How much transfat, how many calories there are. And it ranks it and rates it on an A thru F scale." It even offers other healthier options to swap out if your first choice wasn't so healthy.
And then there's Map My Fitness for runners. Added Johnson, "That allows you to track your running distances and running route."
And best of all, none of these apps cost more than 99 cents.
