Several local communities receive a chunk of a $9 million dollar grant for storm water improvements. Locally, Carl Junction will receive over $19,000 to replace curbs and gutters and to make improvements to help control flooding in the downtown area. Carterville received $20,000 to design and construct ditch improvements to portions of the city streets. Carthage will receive over $53,000 also to be used for ditch improvements in the community. Joplin will receive over $135,000 to improve drainage in the streets and to complete the Joplin Regional Area Storm Water Master Plan. And Webb City received over $53,000 to make improvements to drainage in their city streets. Funding for the grants comes from bond issues approved by voters in 1988 and 1998.
