Joplin, MO- "A successful eater is someone who pays attention to what they eat, making good choices, setting up habits." That, according to Mary McCreery with Freeman Neosho says eating a good breakfast is an important habit to create. "It sets up your metabolism for the entire day. It helps you to metabolize the calories you eat all day. It gives you more energy - it makes you think better, more clearer .... you need to feed your mind so you can think well all day."
Snacking isn't necessarily a bad thing. But that depends on your food choices... and portion control. Added McCreery, "Fruit is always a healthy snack, portion size again - a grapefruit is not a portion size, half a grapefruit is. And apple, melons, about a cup on those and any of the 100 calorie snack items.
McCreery said you should also watch your beverage choices. "Regular pop can really rack up some calories big time. Like a cherry Pepsi is about 260 calories for a 20 oz." She points out that it's important to use only small amounts of high fat items - otherwise the calories could really add up.
