Popcorn Plant Update

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
After months of investigation at the Gilster Mary Popcorn Plant in Jasper, nine former employees prepare to go to court. They are suing the plant for damages due to health problems they suffered from inhaling the popcorn butter and dust inside the factory. Four of the employees are currently awaiting lung transplants. The others say they feel tightness in their chests and only have about 20% lung capacity. Employees say their symptoms have lessened since they left the plant, but they will never fully recover. They say living day to day will never be the same. Attorneys for the employees say they hope to achieve two main goals by going to trial. To make sure no one else is hurt and to fully compensate those who are sick. KSN contacted the Gilster Mary Lee Popcorn Plant today, but they refused to comment about the case.
