NEOSHO, MO---The department purchased $80,000 worth of protective jackets, over-pants, and helmets. The money came from the Neosho Area Fire Protection District, which is funded by a property tax levy. Firefighters had been using the former gear since 2007.
Neosho Fire Chief Mike Eads says it was time for them to be replaced. Department officials have also applied for a FEMA grant to purchase a new fire engine but they have not received approval yet.
