JOPLIN, MO.--A community rallies behind a Joplin woman who is battling breast cancer.

A fundraiser was held at McAuley High School for Cynthia Villa-Perez

She's a mother of 3 who's in and out of the hospital fighting breast cancer.

School teachers and community members put on this event to raise money to help Perez with her medical bills.

They held a silent auction, a bake sale, and offered services for pink hair extensions and bows... all proceeds going to Perez and her family.

Organizers say it's their way of letting her know she's not alone.

Teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School Margie Black says,

"It's a tough road ahead that she has and we're just coming together as a school community as a family to support her."

Cynthia Villa-Perez says, "It feels so good when there's so much people that cares about you even though they don't really know you...I was very happy."

More than 200 hundred people came to the event to show support for Perez.
