Former Joplin Mayor Mike Woolston Receives Big Honor

JOPLIN, MO.--Former Joplin Mayor Mike Woolston gets a big honor tonight for his hard work in recovery efforts during May 22nd.

He also was given special recognition from the U.S. Marines.

City council members say the honor is well deserved.

Joplin City Council Member Mike Seibert says,

"Mayor Woolston just did a tremendous job recognizing the needs of the citizens and just represented the city in a very forthright manner."

Current city council member and former mayor Mike Woolston says, "I don't think its anything in particular that I did. I think the whole community has been involved from the city leadership, the chamber leadhership, the school district, the CART committee."

Also, at tonight's city council meeting...The village of Silver Creek is one step closer to becoming part of the city of Joplin.

Voters will now take it to the next level.

The proposal will be on the on the August 2012 ballot in Jasper and Newton counties.

The council also approved funding for 2 new fire trucks to be added to a Joplin Fire Station.

Both trucks total about 982-thousand dollars.
