BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--The Baxter Springs City Council approves a resolution preventing the mayor from appointing anyone on her own.
Each chairman would oversee a specific department within the city, such as police, cable, water and sewer.
And that person would also be in charge of any changes made within that department... instead of the mayor deciding.
Here's what some had to say about the outcome.
Baxter Springs City Attorney Robert Meyers says,
"Obviously we have differtent opinons certain people on the governing body feel one way and others feel another way i think tonight is a positive step in the right direction were there was some common ground between members."
Attorney to 6 council members Kevin Cure says, "I think tonight was successfull in allowing the counsil members to have a more meaningful input of officers in the future."
They also are looking at ways to stop the mayor from putting city employees on leave without notice.
Earlier this week mayor jenifer bingham put City Clerk Donna Wixon on adminstrative leave for the second time in the past month.
Tonight, the mayor told the Council Wixon was getting free tv and internet services and hid it from the auditor.
Although, the incident is under investigation the city council decided to give Wixon her job back.
Also tonight, Councilman Mike Kauffman was appointed Mayor Pro Tem.
The council is still discussing the future of the police chief.
