First responders hit the gridiron to help raise money for a good cause.

It's all part of the battle of the badges football game held at Missouri Southern Saturday.

Joplin police officers and firefighters played against Springfield police and fire crews.

More than 100 residents came out to watch the game, each paying $5.

The money went to the Neilson Memorial Fund which pays for the Explorer Program.

Nielson was a police officer who died on duty in 2004.

Joplin police officers say this is their way of supporting a good cause while still having fun.
