JOPLIN, MO - Universities will soon be able to apply for funding through the the "Higher Education Capital Fund." It's a new way for colleges to raise money through private donations and grants then apply for state funding.

If the application is accepted, the state will split the cost of some construction projects. Missouri Southern State University officials say they hope to capitalize on this opportunity in the future.

"I think it's a great incentive for donors because you always want to make sure that your money is doing as much as it possibly can," said Joann Graffam, Vice President of Development at Missouri Southern State University."For them to know that theres this opportunity for it to be doubled, essentially is wonderful," Graffam added.

The Missouri Department of Education will begin accepting applications for this funding on August 28th.
