JOPLIN, MO - The Joplin Housing Authority considers adding Springfield to a list of possible living sites for homeless veterans. They received 35 vouchers from the federal government that will provide housing for the vets.Only 26 are currently in use.

The organization is in discussions with the Springfield Housing Authority to make the remaining nine available to homeless vets in that city.

"There's just not a lot of available units for anybody," says Matthew Moran, Executive Director of the Joplin Housing Authority.  "I think we have to go as far as Mt.Vernon and Springfield to find a space that is available," he added.

The Springfield city council is expected to make a decision in the next couple of weeks. If approved, the vouchers will be available soon after.
