NEVADA, MO--- Personal Protection Tactics is an awareness class designed to help women identify dangerous surroundings. The lessons are scenario based and teach women how to escape attackers using improvised protection and defense practices. The class will be taught by black belt karate instructor, Lee Ogle. It's the first time the city is offering a self-defense class. Organizers say there was a lot of interest within the community.
"The most dangerous things I've been involved in came as a surprise. All of a sudden it just happened. That's what we're trying to avoid here. Someone being in a situation where they're surprised, surprise attack in a bad situation," Nevada Chief of Police W. Graham Burnley says.
Tomorrow's class is already full, but Nevada Police Department officials say if there's enough interest they will organize another class.
