JASPER COUNTY, MO--- If you ever need to catch a fish, Duane Neumeyer can literally hook you up. He's a lure collector and has lost track of how many he has. He has a whole room in his house dedicated to the hobby.
"It's just kind of habit forming. Everyone of these, they're all joined but they're all different," says Neumeyer.
He's been collecting for more than 30 years and he says the boxes are almost more rare than the actual lures.
"I don't know how many boxes I've seen floating down the river." His other love is his wife Carol. They've been married for 47 years and she embraces the hobby and the fishing room.
"He lives here just like I do and this is his space, we both live here," says Carol.
The two also travel all across the country visiting the various lure shops.
"I like to hunt for stuff and find it. He likes to talk, a lot. He kind of sits and talks while i go out and do the stuff. I'll bring it back to him. Oh yeah, go find me another one," says Carol.
A Carol says it makes life easier if you embrace your husband's hobby.
"You can let then in the house, or you keep them outside in the dog box. Usually if you don't like what they collect you probably shouldn't be married," Carol states.
If you would like to join the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club, you can call 417-674-1834. New members are always welcome.
And the couple is planning on going to a lure shop in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Carol says one of the wives that goes to the show makes jewelry out of the lures.
