"It's called the Constitutional Amendment Number 2 and it is right to express religious belief and not to be infringed upon. It's that school children have the right to pray in the school," states Bonnie Earl, Jasper County Clerk.
The proposed amendment would also require schools to display the Bill of Rights and ban discrimination against students who include religious material in school work. It also addresses prayer at public meetings. Jasper County Clerk Bonnie Earl says voters can take a look at the measure ahead of time on a sample ballot.
"It would be great if people would go into the office in Carthage or Joplin and pick up a sample ballot. There's Libertarian, Democrat, and Republican ballots, and look over them," states Earl.
The proposed right to pray issue is the only amendment on the August ballot, but there are a long list of candidates facing off in primary elections.
"It might even be quicker if they take a sample ballot with them and that way they can even mark off how they've decided to vote," states Earl.
Voter go to the polls on August 7th.
