NEOSHO, MO--- The Newton County prosecutor's office filed a charge of 2nd degree murder against Bryant Sykes Jr., 24, in the death of 18 month old Ada Bowman.

Sykes' girlfriend told authorities she went to the store for 15 minutes, leaving her daughter alone with her boyfriend. Upon returning, she found the baby was not breathing, and Sykes claimed the 1 year old had fallen off the kitchen table.

Sykes admitted to investigators he threw the baby onto a bed with enough force that the child bounced and struck a table. Ada was in critical condition at a Kansas City hospital suffering from severe head trauma and internal bleeding.

Ada died Saturday morning.

Ada's mother Gina Salazar, was taken in to custody on a outstanding warrant in Newton County, and faces felony charges of child endangerment and hindering prosecution.
