JOPLIN, MO.--- For more than 50 years, James Cusick has been drawing his dreams. He loves hot rods and every chance he gets he draws a new one. This hobby started in the 7th grade and he always stuck with it.

"Got me started, stuck on it ever since," states James Cusick, Designing Cars for 50 years.

These drawings aren't simple doodles, they're designs for new hot rod cars and how to build them. James got extensive details, like how wide the tires are on the car.

"I have ideas, so I put the ideas down on paper."

For years he was a surveyor and had to draw land descriptions, but when he wasn't doing that, he always fell back on his cars. He says those ideas were always in his head and he has to get them out.

"Probably go nuts. It takes up a lot of my time."

His other passion is his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth. Every time she goes to the store, she has to pick up a lot of pens and paper. She says at least he doesn't break the bank and actually buy the cars.

"Cheap, it doesn't cost that much. Cost of pencil and paper," states Elizabeth Cusick, Married 46 years.

His dream is for someone to actually make his drawings come to life.

"That would be nice. A better dream come true, is one day come up with the money to do it myself," states Cusick.

Each drawing is unique, he could spend half an hour on one, but not design is a winner.

"For everyone that I've got here in front of me, I've got a few that never see the light of day. From my chair, to the trash can."
