JOPLIN, MO.--- Nancy Erwin has a love for the past, and that love shows up in her artwork. She takes old local pictures and transforms them into art.

"At garage sales or some places, somebody will bring me an old picture of an old building. I'll remember it," states Erwin.

Her art is on display at the Joplin library and she says it's like a trip back in time.

"I had quite a few pictures of Main street. It's hard to believe it's all gone."

She's been married to her husband Phil for 44 years and says the pictures bring back memories of a different time.

"Bring back great memories. Always pleased to see her final product. It really looks good. Always complimenting her. Not just saying that to flatter her, because I really mean it. It looks really good," states Phil Erwin, Husband.

In all those years of marriage, she has never tried to draw him.

"She never has tried to. I don't think I have staying still long enough," states Mr. Erwin.

One of her most noticeable images is of Dude's Donuts before it was destroyed by the tornado.

"When I did Dude's Donuts they loved it because they didn't have a picture of it they said," states Nancy.

Many of the pictures are in black and white, so she has to guess on the colors, she also says recreating the logos on the signs is hard to do.

"All the writing on them is real hard to do. Signs, back in the days were usually hand done, so they look hand done," states Nancy.
