JOPLIN, MO.--- We use them everyday, but very rarely give our cell phones a bath. A new report from the University of Arizona shows that cell phones are 10 times dirtier than, you guessed it, a toilet seat.

"My cell phone is disgusting, and I didn't even know it," states Keegan Tinney, MSSU Sophomore.

College students use their phones all of the time, and are some of the dirtiest.

"I shower twice a day, that's a plus, but my phone? My phone is really disgusting," states Tinney.

"I think we use our cell phones more than anyone else. We use it for e-mail, social network, and to talk and text," states Mallory Roberson, MSSU Senior.

The study shows that viruses and bacteria get into out system since we hold the phones so close to our face and mouth. Dan Pekarek is the Director of the Joplin Health Department and he says everything we touch multiple times a day, has viruses and harmful bacteria on it.

"Phones or door handles, the steering wheel of your car, mouse on your computer. Anywhere you haven't washed your hands can have viruses," states Dan Pekarek, Health Department, Joplin.

The college students we talked with today were a little more forth coming than I expected with their cell phone funkiness.

"I've dropped my cell phone into my toilet before. Yeah, I had to use a blow dryer to kind of air dry it, but it still works," Tinnely.

Jerrick Williams even brings his cell phone to the bathroom.

"A lot of the time you use the restroom, you gotta check your Facebook and Twitter. You can be in there awhile. Passes the time," states Willams.

His phone isn't the best of shape.

"Mine is cracked, so god only knows what's in those cracks of my cell," states Willams.
