DIAMOND, MO.---  The firefighter in question turned in his resignation this morning, and as a result, most of the volunteers have returned to their posts.14 people started showing up to get their gear and radio's at the fire station once word spread of the resignation. Diamond Fire Officials say they are waiting to hear back from other firefighters, including the City's Fire Chief who resigned over the issue. Diamond Fire Captain, Brian Atherton says they are glad to have the issue resolved.

"They're happy. They're ready to go back to work. I've asked most of them to forget the past, and go on with the future, and the community feels the same way," states Brain Atherton, Captain of Diamond Fire Protection District.

Atherton says if the fire chief does not return, the department will hold open meetings to nominate and elect a new one. They expect those meetings to take place in a few weeks, if necessary.
