Carthage Vehicle Fire Intentionally Set

By: Felicia Shaw
Updated: October 8, 2012
CARTHAGE, MO.---  Carthage police and fire personnel were dispatched to the area of the 100 block of Howard St in Carthage in reference to a vehicle on fire.  Upon arrival a parked and unoccupied vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames was located on a public parking lot.  No other vehicles were threatened, and officers evacuated people from surrounding buildings as a precaution.  Once the fire was extinguished, fire personnel on scene determined that the fire had been intentionally set.
Contact was made with the owner of the vehicle and it was then discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from the owner's residence in the rural Jasper area earlier that same date.  Evidence was collected at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
