JOPLIN, MO.--- Officials expect construction of the new building to begin by Thanksgiving. Right now, crews are doing preliminary site work including excavating and demolishing existing water, phone and sewer lines. Once that is complete crews will build the foundation for the 500,000 square foot high school.

"It's a very aggressive schedule we've set for ourselves but we feel that it's best for the students to get them back home as soon as possible," states Mike Johnson, Joplin Schools Buildings Director.

Construction of the high school is still on schedule with opening set for the fall of 2014.
