PITTSBURG, KS.--- Officers with the Pittsburg Police Department teamed up with the Pittsburg Rotary Club and the Family Resource Center to provide a child car seat safety checkup event today. The goal was to enhance children's safety while traveling in a car. Police officers say they also wanted to make sure parents remembered to stay safe while behind the wheel.

"We focus on child safety were concerned about the general safety of the child when traveling, but also, the parents making sure they also utilize their seat belts," states Maj. Brent Narges, Pittsburg Police Department.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2009 1,314 children ages 14 years and younger died in motor vehicle crashes, and approximately 179,000 were injured.
