JOPLIN, MO.--- The Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau announced the International Route 66 Festival will come to Joplin next year. Thousands of mother road enthusiasts gather each year to celebrate the road's history and its place in american culture. The three day celebration will be packed with car shows, beauty pageants, and activities for all ages. City leaders say this event will have an international appeal.

"We're actually going to be doing some advertising in Europe about this event, and about Joplin, and then we'll also connect that with the rest of the Route 66 communities in Missouri," states Patrick Tuttle, Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau.

This is the first time the celebration will be held in Missouri. It runs from August 1st through August 3rd of 2013.
