WYANDOTTE, OK.--- The Wyandotte Nation Housing Department is building 1 duplex a year, just off of Highway 60 in Wyandotte. Since 2010, they've already built 10 and are gearing up to build one more in a few months. Housing officials say there are several tribal seniors on a wait list wanting to live at the complex. They add, there aren't many options for the seniors apart from those units. They expect to build more duplexes until there is no longer a need for extra housing.

"We feel like the senior are the backbone of our tribe and we try to take care of them. To me, this is an opportunity that a lot of them have to have to actually be taken care of," states Kathy Deweese, Wyandotte Housing Department.

The tribe is also planning to build a community room and safe room fit to house at least 100 people next to the senior complex.
