Fatal Plane Crash Near Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, MO.--- Authorities say a Cessna 310 twin engine plane went down just before 6 yesterday evening 3 miles north of I-44 on Highway F. The plan left Monett and caught fire on impact. An airport officials says the two men left the airport without filing a flight plan. One of the men was a flight instructor and the other was a friend who was also a trained pilot. The names of those on the plane will be released tomorrow. The family has been notified.
"We can kind of look at it as man machine and the environment, and of course we will be looking at the pilot's flight background. His experience. When we talk about the environment we look at the weather and look at air traffic control. Was he communicating with anyone at ATC," states Leah Jaeger, NTSB Senior Air Safety Investigator.
The wooded area where the plane crashed is making the investigation difficult. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are leading the investigation.
