JOPLIN, MO--- Eastmorland Elementary staff and students held an assembly this morning recognizing more than 40 area veterans. Following the assembly, girl scouts from the school served them brunch. The girl scouts said they felt proud serving the veterans.

Girl Scout, Abigail Surbrugg says, " I think they're really brave because they're risking their lives away from families out on holidays."

Eastmorland Principal, Heather Surbrugg says," This is a tradition we started many years ago here at Eastmorland and we just feel like we need to give back to our veterans because they've sacrificed a lot."

Staff and students at Kelsey Norman Elementary also hosted an assembly. Third to fifth grade students read winning essays as part of their Veterans Day essay contest.
