JOPLIN, MO.--- The City of Joplin sent about 47 hundred letters to property owners within the tornado damaged zones. While no plans pinpoint to a specific project at a specific site, roughly 784 acres could be affected by the TIF District. That stands for Tax Incremental Financing, and means some taxes from the site could help repay bonds issued to help fund projects like a new library.

"They have some identified areas within the area, they're looking for specific projects. They've mentioned now the library will probably be located somewhere on 20th Street. There's a whole list of projects that have been proposed, approximately 20 at this point, but they've not been site selected yet," states Tony Robyn, Joplin Disaster Recovery Coordinator.

Workers add that just because property owners in the area received a letter about the plan does not necessarily mean their land would be part of future development.
