LANAGAN, MO.---- "Everybody needs to work together to achieve the common goal," states Brandon Barrett, Noel Fire Chief.
A popular expression at the Noel Fire Department, and something that came to mind when Chief Brandon Barrett was contacted by Lanagan city officials.
"Said they were having some financial difficulties funding the city and wanted to know if we would help out with the fire department," states Chief Barrett.
Noel fire volunteers will now respond to all calls in the Lanagan area. All Lanagan Fire Department expenses, including insurance, utilities, and fuel will be paid by Noel.
"They run between 50 and 100 calls a year so it will add to our call volume," states Chief Barrett.
To cover the costs, Chief Barrett says he will be sending out bills to residents in the Lanagan fire district after the first of the year. Those inside city limits will not be billed.
"We have already employed five of the people from over there. We are going to work out of their station and we are going to leave an apparatus and equipment over there for them to run calls over in that area," states Chief Barrett.
Lanagan aldermen are working on a legal contract between the 2 cities, which will last 1 year or until Lanagan is back on its feet.
"In this day and age our budgets are being cut every year so it is hard to find funding for the fire service. At the end of the day it is about helping the people that live in that area," states Chief Barrett.
The main fire engine at the Lanagan department is in need of mechanical repairs and there's no money to fix it. Noel Firefighters have 2 large trucks, they are planning to keep 1 in Lanagan
