JOPLIN, MO-- Local police say they'll be keeping a close eye on traffic as the holiday season approaches. Joplin officers are hoping to break what's often an end- of- year trend... more and more wrecks. So far in 2012, the city has had 1,557 - a drop from last year. Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts says - if trends hold true - city statistics are on track to finish the year with a decrease.
Added Roberts, "If November and December run somewhat similar to their historic activity levels, we will be below 2,000 this year and it will be unquestionably a result of safer streets in Joplin. Partly our enforcement effort, partly there's been some significant improvement sin the infrastructure."
Enforcement efforts will kick into high gear next week, when Black Friday shoppers crowd local roads.
