PITTSBURG, KS.--- 4 Pittsburg State alumni started the Construction Alumni Scholarship in 1988 for students enrolled in the schools program. In the past 24 years, the group has raised more than $500,000 to help students with books and tuition. The money was raised through private donations and charity golf tournaments held twice a year.

"What really happens is that when they graduate they call us and say 'how can I help'.  I want to help raise money, i want to help give money away too," states James Otter, Director, PSU School of Construction.

This past school year, 50 construction students received scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000. Organizers say students feel a responsibility to give back to the program after they graduate.
