According to reports, Mrs. Cowgill sustained injuries to her face, after which her father, Mr. Wittenmyer, got involved in the confrontation. It is alleged that Mr. Cowgill brandished a shotgun and the two men began to struggle. The shotgun discharged and struck 2-year-old girl and the 4-year-old boy in the face and upper torso area. The two children were taken to a Springfield Hospital where they are recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
