JOPLIN, MO.--- The Joplin School Board met tonight to discuss the Tax Increment Financial District and decide on a recommendation for the city council. Members say they are still reviewing the information on the TIF proposal, and felt making a recommendation tonight would be too soon. They directed Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff and C.F.O Paul Barr to request a continuance to allow them more time to analyze the information. The proposed TIF District would encompass most of the area affected by the tornado and downtown. The plan would provide about 60 million in revenue from tax growth to help pay for about 806 million in redevelopment projects.

"We're very excited about the redevelopment possibilities of Joplin, but were bringing the information to our board once in terms of how will this TIF if passed by city council how would it impact schools and asking us to discuss with the city and the developer ways to reduce financial concerns to the district if the TIF is adopted," states Paul Barr, Chief Financial Officer.

The TIF Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposal this Friday. The board has until December 31st to give a recommendation to the city council.
