JOPLIN, MO.--- Organizers with the Joplin Salvation Army say now is a good time to drop off clothing, toys, or food. That way you don't have to hold onto the receipts all year and will have them ready when you do your taxes before April 15th. How much you can deduct is limited to your tax bracket. Many people simply forget to deduct the money because they loose the receipts and end up paying more in taxes.
"I think sometimes we overlook when we do our taxes. You think, oh yeah I did make a donation but I don't have that receipt or I don't remember when it happened. So if you do these things at the end of the year it makes it easier for you and your accountant," states Callie Hudson, Salvation Army.
You have until December 31st to donate to the Salvation Army to get a break on your 2012 tax form.
