JOPLIN, MO.--- Mechanics at Barney's Quick Lube in Joplin say it's important to get your car checked out before a long drive. Some common things you can do is to check the tread on your tires to see if any of your tires are bald.

Also, look at your battery for any corrosion. You also need to make sure your air filter is clean and that you are up to date on your oil changes. Several people this week have visited the shop to get their car checked out.

"Then you wont be stranded on the road and have to call anybody and spend money on a mechanic, and you can spend more money on your kids for Christmas, " states Tyler Walker, Barney's Quick Lube.

Being proactive is important because tow truck drivers and mechanics usually charge extra if they have to fix your car on a holiday.
