PARSONS, KS.--- He slobbers a bit and loves to play ball, but when it's time to work, he means business. Sergeant Roscoe is the newest member of the Parsons Police Department and is a loving Boxer pup. He's not a drug dog, but more of a therapy dog.
Roscoe doesn't have any formal therapy training but officers say he's a natural. Parsons Police Chief Scott Gofourth says Roscoe helps his officers with his caring personality. He adds Roscoe also helps aggressive suspects open up to officers.
"When bring that dog in there, and maybe that person had thought of doing something, it does change their thought process and they have that moment of where it defuses the situation. So therefore, it's safer for them, safer for my officers," states Scott Gofourth, Parsons Police Department Chief.
Roscoe first arrived at the Parsons Police Department as a mascot. After seeing the pup calm down belligerent people, they bumped him up to officer.
