JOPLIN -- The "Peace Light" has burned in Bethlehem, Israel from as early as 509 AD. The flame landed in New York and representatives from the Boy Scouts of America are traveling to communities around the country spreading the 'light of Christ.' Organizers say they hope the flame is an inspiration over the holidays.

"So long as they have the light, and receive the light, and believe in Him, peace, joy and goodwill will continue to burn i their heart for all the days of their lives," says Jeffery Cook with the Boy Scouts of America.

The flame will have traveled more than 8,000 miles and visited more than 40 states before it returns to Bethlehem.
