BARTON COUNTY, MO.--- Barton County Commissioner Dennis Wilson says AT&T notified them about three weeks ago that one of the county's two stations was down. AT&T officials believe someone cut the lock and tampered with the equipment, then changed the password.
Commissioners say they were told the change was made by an employee of the sheriff's office. The system is located at the Barton County Jail and only AT&T employees have access to it. AT&T officials now believe the system has a virus, which has caused one station to stop working.
"We gotta be up and working . In other words our equipment is so impaired. AT&T says that's the best it's going to be and it's going to keep going down so we've got to replace it now," Dennis Wilson, Barton County commissioner, says.
Wilson says they are still able to get 911 calls, but if the working station becomes overloaded Newton County will step in as back up. He says the commission will meet with AT&T officials to determine what needs to be repaired and what it will cost.
