CARL JUNCTION, MO.--- The Carl Junction Police Department say they had three thefts from cars overnight on New Year's day. Items like GPS systems were taken from cars parked in driveways in the Briarbrook neighborhood.

The police chief says the majority of the calls they receive are reports of theft when cars aren't locked. They recommend not only locking your doors, but also putting valuable items out of sight.

"We like to tell people to think a little bit maybe towards the criminal side of things. Make yourself a harder target and you won't be a victim, they'll go to somebody else that makes it easier for them to operate," says Delmar Haase, Carl Junction Chief of Police.

Police say they do recover the stolen property on occasion but it's usually sold pretty fast.
