LAMAR, MO. --- Staff with the Senior Center in Lamar are collecting non-perishable items for their center's meals and their Meals on Wheels program.

They serve about 50 people a day at the center and about 45 homebound people in Lamar.

The Independent Living Center partnered with the center to make sure homebound clients get food.

"We kinda started behind on our funds this year and we're trying to do fundraisers, the food drives and things like that. The people that get our food it keeps them in their home instead of having to go to the nursing home," Stormy Cuba, manager of the center, says.

Donation boxes are set up at the Senior Center and Summer Fresh grocery store in Lamar.

Items will be collected until January 21st.

Volunteers will distribute the items on the same day which is Martin Luther King's Day of Service.
