JOPLIN -- Members of the Joplin Elks Lodge officially dedicated their new building Saturday on West 26th street. Three members and an employee were killed when the tornado destroyed the old lodge. Despite the hardships of the last year and a half, Elks officers say there was never any question about rebuilding.

"There was never any doubt that we would rebuild in Joplin," says Joplin Elks Exalted Ruler Charles Sorenson. "We are here to serve the community, and have since 1899."

While this is the grand opening of the Joplin Elks Lodge, the members have already been conducting community service out of the building for several weeks. Last month they delivered Christmas baskets to about 250 families in the Joplin area.
