House Bill 65 from State Representative Bill Lant would lower the age required to serve as an alderman in some small cities from 21 to 18. Republicans have a two thirds majority in both houses this year, which could mean overrides if the governor uses his veto power.
"We still have a veto proof. It doesn't mean we're going to be able to override anything the governor vetoes because every member has got some issues that they have a stance on," states Representative Charlie Davis, Missouri District 162.
Republicans have a 109 to 53 vote majority in the House. In the Senate, it's 25 to 9.
