CPD Sees Uptick in Accidents

CARTHAGE, MO-- Local police see a slight increase in wrecks in 2012. The city of Carthage had 208 car accidents last year... up 4% from 2011 but still well below numbers in a five year comparison. The analysis also shows there were no fatal collisions in 2012... and that injury accidents dropped from 67 in 2011 to 55 in 2012.

Carthage Police Chief Greg Dagnan says reducing wrecks will be a priority this year but further reductions could be tough. "It's a level I'm not really sure how effective we can be in reducing that farther. But that doesn't mean we're going to give up trying."

The number of traffic tickets held mostly steady from 2011... with 2,759 moving violations issued by Carthage police. Add in citations for other issues, and the total comes in at more than 45 hundred.
